Here's how my week was!
Monday-Our
Branch President-President Larsen took us and the sisters to go play
tennis and then some basketball! It was really fun! President Larsen is a
really fun guy and an awesome Branch President. Then Brother Carrillo
came out with us and took us to dinner and we taught Kevin's
girlfriend-Mary and her sister Danielle. We were able to put Danielle on
date for the 4th of June! She will have to get married to her boyfriend
first but we are really excited for that!
Tuesday-We
saw Carol first and talked to her about some of the concerns she has
been having. She is more interested in the social aspect of church and
doesn't want to feel like she is abandoning her old church and minister.
We met a new investigator at an address we thought belonged to another
potential named Darren. He seemed pretty interested. The Lord works in
mysterious ways! We had correlation meeting with the ward mission leader
down in Hiawatha. Once we got back to Falls City, we taught Cody and
his girlfriend Ashley a little bit of every lesson and committed them to
come to church next week. Then to finish off, we met Tomasina's super
smart daughter named Anastasia and taught
her
all about the Restoration. She said it all made sense but I get the
feeling she thinks she is too smart for organized religion..
Wednesday-So
we met this Jehovah's Witness girl at Subway on P day and we agreed to
meet with us so we could tell her more about the church. Well we show up
at the park where we were going to meet her and she rolls up in a whole
car full of J Dubs! It was an extremely bashy meeting and we really
tried to stay friendly and calm but they kept bashing. Elder Waite and
myself told them why they were wrong in every subject they brought up
and I think they were pretty upset after.. When we said it was good to
meet them, they simply responded with "Goodbye." Oh well! We tried
really hard to be nice! We then went and met our other JW pal who we've
been teaching and he dropped us saying he couldn't buy into the idea of a
prophet. Darn those Jehovah's Witnesses! We then saw Allison and
Sasquatch. I think the name says it all. They are pagan and very
interesting. They gave us a tarot card reading and apparently I'm
"conflicted." But we did teach them a little bit about the Restoration
and committed them to church next week! We saw Teresa and moved her date
for the 23rd. This Friday!! Then we got some buckets at the park, saw
Rose who has now dodged going to treatment twice, and saw Betty and
Roderick.
Thursday-
We had specialized training down in Topeka and it was really good. A
lot of focusing on finding which was no surprise since Elder Stopper is
now an AP in charge of those kinds of trainings. I went on an exchange
with Elder Landroche (from my home stake) and Elder Taylor (from my MTC
district) during the District Leader training. We went into the ghetto
and it was the most unique experience I've had out here yet! we met some
dude named Popeye who told us his extremely inappropriate take on the
Adam and Eve story then took us to see Big Mama who was going to tell us
all about God and Jesus. We stopped by the Wheelers house on the way
home from Topeka and they fed us some breakfast for dinner. One of my
favorites!
Friday-I
donned my youth sized skateboarding helmet and we hit the streets on
our bikes. We met some old guy who was working on his house named Allen.
He helped fix my bike and said we could come do some service for him
tomorrow! We saw Becky today and she was an emotional wreck from her
emotionally abusive ex husband. We shared some gospel insights with her
and committed her to have a FHE with her family. Her next door neighbor
and town drunk, Ronnie, showed us all his sweet Elvis memorabilia. He is
very much NOT interested but likes us to talk to him. We saw Tristen,
Christian, and Dakota all for brief visits.
Saturday-So
we went and helped Ronnie work on his house and he had us busting up
cement on his porch for like 3 hours! But we had some good conversation
with him and will continue to share things with him and hopefully get
him on date soon. We got the Rasmussens to come on a team up with us and
Travis testified of the reality of the Holy Ghost and the truthfulness
of the Book of Mormon. It was awesome! We watched the Restoration movie
with them and talked to them about how they could share the gospel with
others. We went to Zoe Bone's 8th grade graduation party (because people
celebrate that out here) and I accidentally drank some tea..
Sunday-Well
Teresa didn't come to church today which was a little awkward because
we announced her baptism for this Friday. We went and saw her after
church and she said she was sleeping because she was super worn out from
dealing with a sick Derrick all week. We saw Ronnie again who got us a
drink of soda from the nastiest cups you have ever seen then went down
to Seneca to have dinner with the McGiffins.
We're doing really good here! Lovin' the work! Love you all,
Elder Boman
